Alphabet to Invest $15bn to Establish AI Data Hub in the Indian Subcontinent

Computing Infrastructure
India ranks as a top choice for computing facilities because of its affordable data rates and rapidly growing online population.

The parent firm of Google the Alphabet conglomerate plans to commit $15bn to build an AI data hub in southern India's Andhra Pradesh state.

This center, which will be set up in the coastal city of Visakhapatnam city, is set to become a part of the worldwide network of Google of artificial intelligence hubs spread across 12 countries.

"It stands as the greatest AI facility that we are committing funds to worldwide, outside of the United States of America," Google Cloud's chief executive said at an conference in capital Delhi recently, adding that the funding will be spread across the coming five years.

The announcement arrives during a period American President Donald Trump has been asking companies from the United States to give priority to local funding.

The Expanding Position of India in Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure

The country has risen as a prime location for artificial intelligence facilities. India's affordable data pricing and quickly expanding internet user base have made it a center for cloud and AI expansion for technology leaders.

"The facility will deliver our cutting-edge technology to businesses and consumers in India, speeding up artificial intelligence advancement and promoting progress nationwide," stated Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet.

Initiative Particulars

A formal agreement to conclude the venture is scheduled for signing soon, local government officials announced.

"This represents a significant advancement for our state's technological advancement, progress, and global standing," remarked the state's technology minister Minister Nara Lokesh.

The venture will combine AI and cloud systems with sustainable power solutions and an expanded fibre-optic network.

The State's Data Hub Strategy

The venture forms part of the state government's strategy to establish 6GW of data center capability by 2029.

Computing facilities are tangible infrastructures that house the networking and computing devices that companies use to gather, analyze, save, and share information.

They feature hosting servers, data storage systems and networking hardware like firewalls and routers, in addition to the essential electricity and temperature control systems to run them.

Investment Incentives

Across Andhra Pradesh, the local administration has been granting reduced-cost property and electricity to attract worldwide funders.

Market Development

The country's computing facility market has grown rapidly during the last five years, surpassing the one gigawatt capacity threshold in the year 2024 and approximately tripling its 2019 level.
